Maryam Aleyasin – Intern Counsellor

Intern Counsellor
She/Her/Hers

Maryam Aleyasin is a counselling intern who works with adults, immigrants, and parents navigating anxiety, emotional overwhelm, identity challenges, and major life transitions. As an immigrant herself, Maryam brings a lived understanding of the adjustment process, cultural transitions, and the emotional complexities that often accompany starting over in a new country.

Maryam has experience providing counselling in both Farsi and English and has supported clients from diverse cultural backgrounds and across different stages of life. In addition to her counselling work, she has experience supporting individuals in crisis through a national crisis support service and has been involved in community-based services supporting older adults and families. These roles have strengthened her ability to work with clients across ages, cultures, and life circumstances with sensitivity and care.

Her approach to counselling is collaborative, person-centred, and culturally responsive, grounded in trauma-informed care. Maryam integrates CBT- and DBT-informed strategies, mindfulness-based practices, and narrative and solution-focused approaches, tailoring therapy to each client’s values, cultural context, and individual needs. She strives to create a safe, respectful space where clients feel heard, supported, and understood.

Maryam is committed to supporting clients as they build emotional awareness, resilience, and self-compassion. She believes healing is fostered through meaningful connection, cultural understanding, and trust, and she works alongside clients to help them move forward with greater clarity, balance, and confidence.

“It is the client who knows what hurts, what directions to go, what problems are crucial, what experiences have been deeply buried.” — Carl Rogers.
