You’ve been holding things together for a long time (at work, at home, in relationships) while quietly carrying something heavier underneath. You’ve tried to push through anxiety, old wounds, or a pattern you can’t seem to break. Or maybe life has shifted in a way that’s left you unsure of who you are or where to go next.

Reaching out is often the hardest part and you’re wondering whether counselling can help or whether Sam EzzatiLord is the right fit. But a free 15 minute consultation is a risk-free way to find out.

About Sam

Sam brings over two decades of real-world clinical experience, not just office hours, but worked and lived in refugee camps, veterans’ clinics, psychiatric wards, and addiction rehabilitation centres across Canada and internationally. He has assisted people in some of the most difficult circumstances imaginable: survivors of war and displacement, veterans carrying invisible wounds, families torn apart by addiction, and individuals navigating the weight of long-standing trauma.

That extreme depth of his experience means Sam will maintain his absolute and unconditional respect, regardless of your story. Whatever you bring, he has already seen its edges before.

Sam currently works within the psychiatric team at Fraser Health Authority, collaborating with psychiatrists and interdisciplinary professionals on complex mental health cases. This keeps his practice based on the most current clinical research and up to date treatment guidelines.

Before this, he spent two years at TWC Vancouver addiction rehabilitation centre, where he helped clients in residential recovery by weaving evidence-based approaches such as spiritual 12-step program with atheistic SMART Recovery or cultural/Indigenous healing practices.

Prior to that, he spent 12 years providing medical and psychiatric care in Red Crescent refugee Camps in the Middle East (supporting survivors of conflict, displacement, and mass trauma) followed by nearly a decade working with chemical warfare veterans and their families, developing specialized expertise in intergenerational trauma and family-systems therapy.

His various research papers have been presented at the North American Primary Care Research Group (NAPCRG), including work on supporting unhoused individuals in addiction recovery and mental health care in crisis settings.

What Brings People to Sam

Clients come to Sam carrying a wide range of experiences. You may be dealing with:

  • Anxiety, chronic stress, or a sense that your nervous system is always “on”
  • Trauma or PTSD (recent or from years ago)
  • Addiction, substance use, or recovery support
  • Depression or persistent low mood
  • Emotional dysregulation or difficulty managing reactions
  • Family conflict, intergenerational patterns, or relationship strain
  • Burnout, brain fog, or a major life transition
  • Concurrent mental health and substance use challenges

You don’t need to fit neatly into a category. If something feels off and you’re ready to explore it, that’s enough to start.

Neurofeedback: Supporting Your Brain, Not Just Your Thoughts

Sam is also trained in clinical neurofeedback, a non-invasive, evidence-informed approach that works at the level of brain regulation rather than talk alone. For some clients, applying a neurofeedback protocol can be a significant complement to counselling or therapy. Such as:

  1. Alert protocol for fatigue, low arousal, depression.
  2. Deep protocol for anxiety, PTSD, creativity blocks.
  3. Focus protocol for ADHD/ADD, inattention.
  4. Peak protocol for cognitive performance, peak states.
  5. Relax protocol for stress, insomnia, overarousal.
  6. Squash protocol for tension, hyperarousal, tics.

Neurofeedback is never pushed or even advertised to clients. It’s offered only when it’s clinically appropriate and something you want to explore.

How Sam Works

Sam doesn’t use a one size fits all approach. He works collaboratively with each client and meets you at your pace, respecting your readiness for change, and building a plan that fits your specific goals and circumstances. His style is direct but compassionate, culturally informed, and shaped by genuine humility about how complex human experience can really be.

He believes that feeling safe in the therapy room isn’t a luxury, it’s the foundation that makes everything else possible.
