Shalene Takara is a seasoned counsellor with over 10 years of experience supporting couples and families. She specializes in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) and works with parent couples addressing challenges such as communication, conflict, anger, mental health issues (including depression, anxiety, and trauma), parenting concerns, addiction, separation/divorce, co-parenting, and significant life transitions. Shalene has additional specialized training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy for Trauma, Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), and attachment-based parenting.
With a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, Shalene has worked with a diverse range of populations, including immigrant and refugee families, same-sex parent couples, and families from Indigenous communities.
SHALENE SPECIALIZES IN: Trauma, particularly related to abuse, difficult childhood experiences, and relationship or family conflict. She supports individuals, couples, and families from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds, including those impacted by intergenerational trauma and migratory experiences. Shalene is also equipped to support clients seeking a therapist with an understanding of the Islamic worldview, drawing from her 10+ years living in Islamic communities in North Africa, Europe, and Canada, where she primarily spoke French. Additionally, she is well-suited to work with East Asian clients, those with diverse or mixed cultural identities, and first- or second-generation individuals.
